Lorgues is in the centre of the Var Department between the Mediterranean and the Gorges du Verdon; about 45 minutes from Nice. Historically it was important as it was on two ancient routes: south-north to the interior, and east-west to Italy.
This is one of the other highlights.I spent two hours in this town walking through the told streets of the village that extends on two hills, and then down behind the town across the old bridge that leads to the hunting lodge. The castle was transformed in the 17th and 18th C into a restored residence. In fact, the entire village has been classified as a historical monument with ancient houses ands the fortified chuch.
Another don't miss village.
I received a recommendation to visit this town, and Karen and I drive up one evening to find a scenic town with a lively central square with restaurants and cafes.
Enjoy a drink and then walk the network of narrow streets lines with stoned houses.
I went to see this town as the is a waterfall in the city park, a 10-15 minute walk from the main square. There are also caves and old structures that can be visited.
I did not realized that we have visisted this abbaye a couple of decades ago. But visiting it again was worth it. It is a former Cistercian abbey built in the late twelfth and early thirteenth century.
The parking lot is just across the main road, with a short 5 minute walk to the Abbaye. The church and cloisters are very impressive.
It is a larger town located about 20 minutes from our house. While I was focusing on smaller towns I was glad that I went to visit this town. There are underground parking lots in the centre of town and the tourist office gives maps highlighting areas to go. I found numerous places to visit.

Another recommended town to visit. A medieval village located on the Gorges de Chateudouble. The village clings to rock cliffs with a pair of towers over the town. One in ruins and one standing as if a lookout to this day. It is a quite town. You won't find a big retail scene but there is a restaurant and bar on the main square. I was there on a Sunday morning so it was just me and the town cats.
